Winter storm blankets Wichita area with snow

Heavy snow covers trees across southcentral Kansas - photo by Josh WellsAnother round of winter weather is moving across the state of Kansas to begin the week.

Moderate to heavy snowfall was reported across southcentral Kansas last night, with light snow and flurries falling throughout the day Monday.

As of 4:00 am Monday, the National Weather Service office in west Wichita reported four inches of heavy, wet snow while the area of 21st and Maize Road in northwest Wichita received five inches and McConnell Air Force Base received three. 

Temperatures dropped into the 20's during the afternoon, and police were reporting icy spots on Kellogg and other elevated highways across the area.
