One person is dead after a crash in North Wichita.
It happened around 3 o'clock this morning near 29th Street North and Cromwell. Wichita Police say the driver of the Corvette was traveling west on 29th at high speed when he struck a power pole, snapping it at the base.
The car travelled about 50 more yards before it stopped and caught fire. Fire crews had to wait for Westar Energy to deactivate the power lines so they could safely fight the fire.
Police had to wait until it was safe to approach before confirming that someone had been killed. That person has not been identified.
