Fire damages south Wichita duplex

Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a vacant duplex in south Wichita. The fire was reported around 1 pm Friday in the 3000 block of East Whitney Lane, in a neighborhood near Pawnee and George Washington Boulevard.

Acting fire battalion chief Kenneth Ast said the roof collapsed over the north apartment, and firefighters had to stay outside the structure to put water on the fire. He said the south apartment was also damaged.   There were no injuries.  The cause is under investigation.
