Since 2007, the 4th of July holiday travel numbers have been down 17-percent.
Last year, gas prices of nearly $4.00 a gallon kept holiday travelers close to home. This year, Triple-A spokesman Jim Hanni says the economy is keeping travel forecast number lower than they have been before. He says people are worried about their financial future and job stability and those factors are keeping people closer to home this summer.
This year, it's expected that 37 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home. Last year, the travel forecast was 37.8 million.
