State education cuts mean deeper cuts in Wichita

The Wichita public school district will now have to cut about $25 million from the budget for the upcoming school year.

School board members have already approved a list of cuts to eliminate the district's budget deficit. Board President Lynn Rogers says it's been a frustrating year. He says he and other board members believe a strong public education system is vital for the strength of the state's economy.

Rogers says the Board of Education and district staff have attempted to keep cuts from affecting the quality of classroom education, but, he says, any cuts are negative for students.
