School districts across the state will have to absorb a two-percent funding cut after revisions to the 2010 budget were announced by Governor Mark Parkinson today.
The only state department that was not cut was public safety. The Governor says the cuts were needed to eliminate a $160 million hole in the fiscal year budget that began this week.
When it comes to school funding, the cuts total $39 million, or about $68.00 per student.
The Governor says expanded gambling could be a way to avoid budget shortfalls and cuts in the future.
