Woman hurt in Augusta house fire

An Augusta woman was rushed to a Wichita hospital in critical condition after a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

Augusta Department of Public Safety Major Ray Marbut said crews were called to a home near the intersection of Kelly and Ohio just after 3:15 p.m. Crews had the fire out within five minutes, Marbut said.

He said the woman was found in a bedroom of the small home and was taken by EMS to Via Christi-St. Francis hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Marbut said at the scene a cause had not yet been determined, but he estimated the damage at $20,000. Crews kept the fire contained to the kitchen, he said.
