Public meetings will be held this week on a draft plan for the future of the park and recreation system in Wichita.
The plan is called the Park Recreation and Open Space Plan, or the PROS Plan. It was developed with the help of an Oregon consulting firm that conducted surveys and focus group discussions over the past 18 months.
Wichita park and recreation director Doug Kupper said the plan calls for the city to develop neighborhood facilities. It defines the city's role as providing small-scale parks and facilities within walking distance for Wichita residents.
The plan will be presented to city council members, and members of the district advisory boards and the planning commission during a meeting Thursday evening at city hall. The second meeting will be held Saturday morning at 9 at the CityArts building to get public input. A final plan should be ready by the end of the year.
